The interior of a small nursery: the choice of color, style, decoration and furniture (70 photos)

Personal space is very important for the formation of a full-fledged personality from the earliest return. Designing a small children's room will require a lot of effort, but given the conditions for creating comfort and safety, the child will be comfortable in his small world.

In the photo there is a white room without curtains with multi-colored details that make the interior original and bright.

General rules and zoning of the room

In order for a small-sized children's room to look visually larger, you need to follow a few rules:

  • Light color palette (pastel wallpaper with or without a pattern, glossy white ceiling, do not use more than three colors to create an interior). Bright accents are appropriate for children under 7 years old and more muted after 9 years.
  • The choice of vertical shelves and racks, the rejection of horizontal cabinets and open shelves (narrow high furniture pulls up all the space, closed doors hide all things and organize order).
  • A maximum of functional things, extra accessories with toys will litter the empty space of the nursery. It is important the presence of boxes, hidden shelves for toys on the windowsill, under the bed or in the corner.

The main rule of zoning a small child ⎯ is the placement of furniture against the walls in order to make as much space as possible.

  1. The working area should be well lit with daylight and artificial light, so the table is better placed at the window. The schoolboy needs a small table, a comfortable chair and one small wall shelf. It is better not to choose a wide table (to save space, and in order not to pile up the table with unnecessary items).
  2. The rest area or bed in the nursery should be lit with a muffled warm light for a good rest of the child, a bedside night light will help the child get used to sleep on their own.
  3. In the play area, there may be boxes with toys, an easel or a slate board, a game console and a TV, a small sofa or a soft armchair bag, a floor mat or pillows.

The photo shows the functional use of space by the window as a seating area with separate lighting.

The choice of interior style

In order for the nursery to look as important as possible, it is worth decorating it with toys and accessories that are easy to replace. The room can be made in different styles using the game of colors, textiles and decor.

  • The modern style of the nursery implies the presence of functional furniture, a transformer bed or a special set, where the bed occupies the second floor, and a small sofa or table is located under it.

In the photo room for two, where the workplace is increased due to the corner table, and the rest area is occupied by a bed on the second level and a convertible sofa.

  • The marine style in the nursery is suitable for both a boy and a girl, made out in blue tones, with white furniture, fittings in the form of shells and ships.

  • Scandinavian style means open wardrobes, white color schemes, knitted blankets, light curtains and wooden flooring.

  • In a classic children's room, a wardrobe replaces a tall chest of drawers, the walls are painted in a delicate blue or beige color. Gold fittings, photo frames, pelmets and canopy create the classics.

  • Provence is suitable for decorating rooms for girls. Wallpaper in small flower, cropped simple curtains, furniture with carving and fresh wildflowers will create the comfort of French style.

Color solution

When choosing a color, the main thing is not to overdo it with bright accents that will make a small space even smaller. For a newborn baby, cream, turquoise, light gray and white shades of the walls are suitable, which will be combined with pale yellow, tangerine, pale pink.

You can traditionally arrange a nursery in pink or blue color, but such combinations for a boy's room look much more interesting:

  • Gray-white walls and yellow interior details;
  • Gray walls and blue-white details;
  • Turquoise-white walls and natural wood color;
  • Blue-white walls and red accents;
  • White walls and green and orange accents;
  • Green and white walls and natural wood color.

For the girl’s child’s room:

  • Gray-pink pastel shades for walls and white decor;
  • Beige walls and pale pink accents in textiles;
  • Gray walls and tangerine decor;
  • Gray walls and fuchsia in the interior;
  • Beige walls and turquoise accents.

Finishing requirements

All materials for decoration and arrangement of the nursery should be environmentally friendly and do not emit harmful substances and strong odors.

  • Walls. For smooth walls suitable special paint based on water, which is a good bed and dries quickly. As the child grows up, the walls can be repainted over the old paint and change the style of the room. You can use paper or non-woven wallpaper that will hide the unevenness of the walls.
  • Flooring. On the floor fit laminate with a slight roughness, so that the child does not slip. A cork floor that is very warm and not slippery will also be a good choice. It is better to abandon the massive carpet and carpet as storage dust, suitable small carpet made of natural materials. If you choose linoleum for the nursery, then it should be without synthetic materials.
  • Ceiling. A whitewash or painting is suitable; you can make a stretch single-level glossy ceiling reflecting light and additionally increasing a small area.

Choice of furniture

Furniture-transformer or modern compact furniture will help to organize for your child a zone of games, recreation and study. Designers offer a large selection of furniture, where the bed is combined with a table, shelves and drawers, freeing up space for games and additional interior items. Furniture for a small nursery should be made of light wood or painted in light shades (milky, white, light beige, etc.).

One closet will help save a little nursery space and additionally replace a couple of shelves, and the built-in large mirror in the cabinet doors will create the illusion of room width.

It is better to choose a bed for growth, the usual adult size and to organize to it the second floor for games or storage. The bed can be a chest of drawers, which has pull-out shelves at the bottom. A pull-out bed, a chair-bed, a folding sofa will also save space in a small nursery.

In the photo is a nursery for a boy in blue, where all the furniture is rationally used.

Desk and chair is recommended to take adjustable height. For compact placement shelf and racks occupy both sides of the table. There are also ready-made kits, where the bed is located above the table, thus combining two zones near one wall.

The choice of lighting, decor and textiles

When choosing lighting for a nursery, it is recommended to choose several light sources:

  • For main lighting, it is worth choosing not a chandelier, but built-in spotlights with adjustable brightness above the working area (the light should be softly diffused and not cold).
  • A daylight desk lamp is required on every student's desk.
  • A small wall bedside lamp in the nursery will help the child fall asleep.

Decorating a room of a small square is minimal and considering the age characteristics of the child. For example, in the children's room for a boy up to 12 years old there will always be topical pirate, racing themes and an equipped sports corner (ball ring or hammock). For the design of a nursery for a girl, it is important to have a large mirror, small pillows, a canopy, paintings.

Bed linen is better to choose from a natural fabric of neutral color or with thematic patterns.

For window decoration, light curtains, Roman, French curtains, blinds, tulle and translucent fabrics are best suited for convenient use of the window sill as an additional storage space. By color it is best to focus on curtains, bedspreads and a rug (as the child grows up, it is easier to replace them than, for example, a stretch ceiling canvas).

The photo shows a teenage nursery with glossy furniture, lush ottoman and roller blinds. Horizontal stripes on the wall make the small room visually wider.

Room for two and three children

If each child cannot be allocated a room, then you can divide a small children's room for two children into personal zones. In one cabinet each will have its own shelf, there will be two approaches to the desktop, each should have its own chair (if both children are schoolchildren). If these are children of different sexes, then it is better to choose a bunk bed with curtains.

In the photo there is a children's room for two, where panels of cold shades, decorated with a chandelier and textiles, became color accents.

For three children fit the organization of a bunk bed and a chair-bed with a comfortable mattress. It is important to organize the mode of comfortable use of zones, for example, the sequence of classes at the table and the organization of lighting so that the student does not interfere with holidaymakers.

Ideas to help expand the space of a small nursery:

  • Rejection of massive and long curtains in favor of roller blinds in order to use the window sill as a shelf or additional workplace;
  • To save space, you can make a retractable or small folding table;
  • Light finish, good lighting, mirrors and glossy stretch ceiling will increase the space;
  • The choice of functional furniture (for example, modern small beds for newborns are transformed into a full bed).
