Properly installed stretch ceilings in the interior completely change the appearance of any room for the better, visually expanding even cramped spaces of “Khrushchev”.

Advantages, disadvantages of stretch ceilings

Like any modern element of design, this item has its pros and cons.

Benefits:

  • construction is mounted quickly, relatively easily, without unnecessary debris;
  • preliminary alignment of a surface is not required;
  • protects the room from water, while leaking from above - withstands up to one hundred liters of water per square meter;
  • sufficient durability, while maintaining an attractive appearance - 9-16 years;
  • installed in any room - wet, cold, fire hazard;
  • masks the wires from the lamps, other communications, ceiling beams, seams;
  • possibility of mounting at any height;
  • a huge variety of colors, an abundance of design solutions.

Disadvantages:

  • does not tolerate frosts if there is no heating;
  • low strength when exposed to sharp objects;
  • fabric constructions are difficult to clean when contaminated;
  • it is difficult to establish independently if there is no experience, suitable tools;
  • quite high cost, especially for textile options.

The choice of materials, their characteristics

In antiquity, the similarity of stretch ceilings was obtained from silk, linen fabrics, which were suspended in the wet state, and upon drying they created a relatively flat surface. Later, they began to paint in the tone of furniture, walls.
The main materials used in modern times are textile fabrics and PVC films. Polyvinyl chloride exists in any color, matte or glossy, from fabric - only a matte version.

PVC canvas

Film canvases are quite durable, have high water resistance. Their width is limited, because there are unobtrusive seams formed in the places of welding cloths between themselves. PVC canvases are given a variety of texture (matte, glossy, "under textiles"), an image of any complexity is applied. Of the serious drawbacks, there is instability to the impact of sharp objects, low temperatures.

Glossy

Brilliant, easily reflects the rays of light, gives a lot of glare, expands the close space, makes it higher. Such a canvas, especially white, beige, fills the room with light, but if it is in abundance here, then the eyes will get very tired. It should not be installed in unheated premises of a country house - during the winter the coating will become unusable.

Matt

This look looks more traditional, classical, reminds qualitative whitewashing, does not create glare. A room with such a ceiling seems more comfortable, the pollution on it is not as noticeable as the joints of individual panels are not visible. The covering is recommended for rooms where it is required to have a rest, concentrate - an office, a bedroom, a nursery.

Satin

The coating has an interesting texture that preserves the light shine of natural textiles. It perfectly protects against water leaks, in part - from noisy neighbors above. It has no seams; it is made of textile-polymer material, which ensures normal air-exchange processes in the room. It can be performed translucent, dispersing light in an interesting way. Does not sag, it is steady against the lowered temperatures.

Variety of forms, levels

There are different versions of stretch ceilings:

  • classic - smooth, smooth, has nothing superfluous;
  • two-level - it has a "step" leading to the second level; it is formed in smooth or even lines, it is used for zoning of spaces;
  • multilevel - suitable only for high rooms, has three or more tiers;
  • "wave" - runs along one, two or more walls, the crests of the waves have different heights, steps, etc .;
  • “arch” is a smooth or clear transition of the walls into a concave-shaped ceiling;
  • "dune" - reminds an inverted bell or a volcano with a hole;
  • A "cone" - sharper than a "dune" can have edges.

Color variety

Most popular colors:

  • snow white;
  • beige;
  • gray
  • black;
  • red and scarlet;
  • yellow orange;
  • maroon;
  • turquoise;
  • violet;
  • light green-marsh;
  • light brown.

For spacious living rooms, bedrooms, children's rooms with panoramic windows on the south side, matte canvas in several levels, rich, cool colors will do. A cramped room with a single window facing north is decorated with a light, warm, glossy canvas in one level.

Solid colors

Monochrome coverings are most often used - it is easier to select them for a certain interior style. Usually the color of the walls is darker than the ceiling by at least two or three tones. The combination of beige with brown walls, blue with violet, yellow with red-orange, scarlet with snow-white, etc. looks beautiful.

Perforated canvas is made in several layers, made of glossy, matte details. Looks good translucent, decorated with LED tape, placed between the layers. Such a decoration requires great effort, but it looks incredibly beautiful.

Wallpaper stick before the installation of the ceiling of the canvas, except when they are planned to change frequently.

Lighting nuances

Stretch ceilings, especially those with perforations, create a huge scope for the original placement of lighting fixtures. A variety of shades of canvas, various shapes, sizes of holes, design of lamps creates unique compositions. It is important to consider the minimum required number of lamps, sometimes they are grouped.

What lamps are used:

  • point - in them the regulated angle of the flow of light, you can create an imitation of the sun's rays breaking through the cloud;
  • light bulbs inside - a plane with illumination located behind the ceilings of a different color scheme creates zoning of the space with the help of color, quiet diffused lighting;
  • LED strip - helps to depict "patterns of light", the outer layer with perforation makes the room supposedly deeper;
  • light-dynamic systems - with successful installation, dawn, sunset, moonlight on the water is recreated;
  • the sky with the stars - dotted lamp-stars of different sizes are visible from the outside, and the "rays" are hidden behind the canvas, creating the effect of radiance;
  • optical fibers - are moving luminous threads of various lengths;
  • side lighting - it looks especially beautiful in combination with perforation, LED strips.

Methods of fastening the ceiling eaves

The eaves for stretch ceilings are a flat tire to which the curtains are hung.

According to the material manufacturing eaves happens:

WoodenThick, heavy, expensive, but the most beautiful, luxurious.
SteelFor dense curtains with a large weight, sometimes decorated with plastic, wood.
AluminumStrong, lightweight, can have a wooden decor.
PlasticThe most common, durable, inexpensive.

Installation of any kind of cornice on stretched textiles, film coating seems impossible, but there are at least two methods:

  1. Open - option with use of mortgage bars. Before you start working on hanging the ceiling, the place of attachment of the eaves is carefully marked. After marking the perimeter of the room, then - the direct installation of the ceiling. Where the marking is applied, a bar is fastened with dowels - the fasteners are driven into the holes prepared in advance in the base ceiling. The bar is chosen so wide that it is well attached to the ceiling panel - sometimes it even requires mounting wedges. After securely attaching the bar, the canvas itself is stretched, then the cornice is attached to the screws through it - this should be done very carefully. Holes for screws are burned in the film, made out of plastic rings. Mortgage bar should not be visible on the finished structure.
  2. Hidden - in this case, the eaves are invisible, he "hides" in a niche. The method is relatively complex, but it looks more interesting - as if the curtains fall because of the plane of the ceiling. The cornice is purchased before measurements are taken from the ceiling - the size of the cornice corresponds to the size of the niche, the area of the cloth. The cornice is attached to the ceiling ceiling - dowels having a metal or plastic sleeve are used. In two to four millimeters from the eaves, a timber bar is attached - a profile fixing the ceiling leaf is later mounted there. Attach it to the side where the eaves, so that the film covers the whole bar. In the best way this option is suitable for a very brilliant ceiling.
