Wall painting in modern interior

Painting is a way of depicting the real or fictional world with the help of brushes, paints, canvas, but it can also be performed on other surfaces. It is of various genres, produced in different techniques. Painting in the interior of a modern city apartment, a country house, a luxurious office, will highlight the chosen style of the room, give it originality and individuality.

About painting

Painting - one of the many types of art. It originated in ancient times, when the cave ancestor of man began to paint on the stone walls colored pictures depicting what surrounded him everyday. It was about 30 -35 thousand years ago.

The paints were made from natural materials - pale yellow to reddish-orange colors were obtained from iron oxide, and manganese was also used. Pigments were mixed with animal fat, drawing was done using sticks, bristle brushes.

About 5 thousand years ago began to draw the Egyptians. They put paint on the walls, smeared with lime, clay. Painting developed, improved, in the Middle Ages spread the picturesque icons that decorated the interior of the temples. In the Renaissance, full-fledged portraits appeared, landscapes, from the 18th century, art schools began to open in various European countries. If the XIX century was very romantic, and the painters were striving for the ideal, then in the XX century art became more rigid, in some ways rebellious. The 21st century brought the latest digital technologies, including 3D technologies, but many artists still continue to paint in oils on canvas.

Types, genres

There are only five types of painting:

  • monumental;
  • easel;
  • miniature;
  • theatrical decorative;
  • decorative.

There are more picturesque genres:

  • portrait is a self-portrait, costumed, retrospective, religious, parade, chamber, miniature, etc .;
  • landscape, including the marina - depicts the surrounding nature, sometimes modified by human activity. Marina - sea views, any events in the vast expanses of water;
  • still life - a composition of several inanimate objects (dishes, fruits, books, draperies), usually located on a table, window, any other surface;
  • animalistic - shows animals, birds, fish in all its glory. Furry art depicts anthropomorphic creatures;

  • religious - iconography, almost any subjects related to religion;
  • decorative - it is divided into monumental (directly on the walls of buildings), theatrical (sketches of costumes, scenes), painting (performed on the walls or any other objects).

Functionality in the interior

The functions of the paintings in the design are very different - from simple decoration to blocking the hole on the wallpaper, namely:

  • the finishing touch in the overall decoration of the room;
  • "smoothing" the proportions of furniture;
  • unique accent detail;
  • room shape adjustment;
  • positive effect on mood;
  • bring in elements of luxury.

The picture should correspond to the purpose of the room: in the living room large canvases with landscapes are placed, in the kitchen there are delicious still lifes, in the bedroom there are abstractions in pastel colors, in the nursery there are flowers, fish, animals.

In the living room it is not recommended to hang overly bright canvases with aggressive plots - eyes will tire of them, the atmosphere will be tense.

Using painting in interior styles

Various types of painting are used in almost all interiors:

  • classic - portraits, seascapes, placed symmetrically, genre painting, bright still lifes, magnificent palace scenes, gilded frames;
  • loft - canvases with clear details - landscapes of modern cities, detailed images of cars, motorcycles, buildings;
  • country - preferred landscapes, including those made in watercolor, on a rural theme, still lifes, genre scenes;
  • Provence - images of blooming fields, still lifes with lush bouquets, rural animals, birds;
  • minimalism - a simple canvas in the style of cubism, surrealism, modular pictures will do;
  • Baroque - “rich” design of the frame with carvings, patina, portraits, landscapes, images of palaces and temples of the XVII-XIX centuries - both originals and copies;
  • Art Deco - here antiquity is combined with oriental motifs, the canvases are mostly bright, the frames are voluminous;
  • Japanese - pictures without frames with oriental scenes - portraits of people in Japanese national clothes, blooming cherry trees, inscriptions from hieroglyphs.

A variety of scenes, themes in painting

The plots are chosen according to the design of the premises, the personal preferences of the tenants - one loves exclusively Russian realism like K. Bryullov, I. Repin, A. Savrasov, the other - the New York school of painting, which is abstract expressionism, the third one likes avant-garde or surrealism.

For Chinese painting, only three genres are characteristic - portrait, water and mountains, flowers and birds. Since in China everything is designed in accordance with the traditions of Feng Shui, each element has its own sacred meaning and must be placed not only in a certain room, but also in accordance with the direction of the world. Russian painting is divided into whole eras - in some there are ladies in magnificent dresses and magnificent palaces of the 18th century, in others - the life of a Soviet worker or peasant of the beginning of the 20th century, in the third - a modern person in the developed infrastructure of the metropolis and the surrounding reality.

The most popular scenes of paintings used for interior decoration:

  • people - half-length, group portraits, characters engaged in any activity, vacationers;
  • animals - wild, domestic, and also birds, aquarium fish;
  • still lifes - dishes, any food, flowers, compositions from small household utensils;
  • landscapes - rural, urban, sea, forest, with different seasons, buildings, structures;
  • fantastic - obscure but intricate plots relating to surrealism, futurism, metarealism, etc .;
  • geometric - contrasting color bands, circles, cubes, fractals that have a clear form;
  • abstractions - the plot is blurred or absent, usually vague spots, stripes, fuzzy silhouettes;
  • inscriptions - words, letters, phrases, fragments of text, hieroglyphs, originally decorated in color.

A win-win for any room - portraits of the inhabitants of the room, realistic or cartoons.

Color selection

The color scheme is chosen for the interior coloring - in contrast or in similar colors. Each room requires different colors - bright, warm visually increases the space, therefore recommended for small rooms with windows to the north, dark, cold - on the contrary, they narrow, so they are hung in more spacious rooms with windows to the south.

In the kitchen, it is recommended to place the compositions in green-orange, red-yellow colors - the composition should stimulate the appetite, stimulate the speedy preparation of food. Of the artists recommended P. Cezanne, G. Klimt, P. Gauguin.

For the bedroom, soft tones are selected, simple plots that are not too multicolored (the battle scenes, the works of F.Rubo, the rough cubism from P. Picasso, are completely unacceptable). Color, monochrome portraits in the style of "nude", A. Matiss, G. Courbet, I. Shishkin's brown-yellow-green landscapes, pink-orange-blue sea scenes by I. Aivazovsky will do.

In the living room hang large canvases that have a lot of details, a variety of colors - such that it would be interesting for guests and owners to look at them for a long time. Depending on the style of the room, the paintings by I. Bosch, P. Bruegel, S. Botticelli, M. Chagall and others will do.

Children's is made according to the child's age - kids, younger students will like "naive art", fabulous cheap prints, in delicate pink-yellow-blue tones, teenagers - neo-realistic painting, colorful pop art, black and white stencils .

How to combine with other elements of decor

Picturesque canvases correctly combine with everything that exists in the room, without creating dissonance. A portrait in a heavy frame will not fit into a minimalist, Japanese interior, an abstraction without a frame is not suitable for the Empire style, classics, Gothic, providing luxurious carved, patinated furniture.

Usually, paintings are hung at eye level: large ones are at the same distance from the nearest furniture items, small ones can be placed randomly if they are all on the same wall or at the same height when placed on two or more walls. The one and only place in the most prominent place, but if space allows, it is not left alone.

The image on canvas becomes a continuation of the interior or duplicates individual decorative elements placed in the room.

Tips where how to hang

The interior design of different styles presupposes a different placement, mainly wall-mounted, but it is permissible to hang pictures on the columns, internal steep slopes of the attic floors.

Useful tips on placement:

  • Do not place the cloth near the stove, the furnace - soot washed extremely difficult;
  • they should be hidden from the sun - otherwise they will gradually burn out;
  • the nail on which the construction rests must not touch the canvas - there may be damage;
  • it is desirable to place it at a small angle relative to the wall - then the dust will settle mainly on the frame;
  • pictures do not hang near heaters - high temperatures spoil them, paint cracks.

At will, pictures are highlighted, drawing attention to them.

How to care for oil paintings

Paintings are painted in oil on canvas, other fabrics, cardboard, wood. To give light resistance, protection from water and physical damage, they are coated with a special fir varnish. It is not necessary to protect the glass with such a sheet.

The picture is cleaned of dust, dirt with a velvet or flannel cloth, but not very wet - the surface will absorb water, textiles will be damaged. The canvas is allowed to occasionally vacuum from the reverse side, if it sags or there is a noticeable dent, the back side is slightly moistened with water to stretch the canvas.

Conclusion

Picturesque canvases decorate, diversify the interior, make it unique, suitable for almost any room with a normal humidity level. This painting from famous artists of the past is too expensive. Reproductions made by local urban craftsmen, students of art schools will cost less. If you have skills, you can do simple abstraction or watercolor landscape with your own hands by filling out a simple purchase frame - there are a lot of various textbooks and graphics.
